ACCOMMODATIONS & TRAVEL SUPPORT
Support when treatment means travelling or staying away from home.
Families in Northern Ontario may need to travel long distances or stay away from home for appointments, treatment, or follow-up care. Accommodation and travel-related support is intended to help reduce some of the added pressure that can come with being away from home during a child’s cancer care.
Support when care takes families away from home
Travelling for cancer care can place a significant strain on families, especially when appointments, treatment, or follow-up care require long drives, overnight stays, parking, transit, or time away from work and home responsibilities.
NOFCC’s accommodations and travel-related supports are intended to help eligible families offset some of these practical costs so they can focus more fully on care, comfort, and being present for their child.
What this support includes
Accommodation support
When families must travel or stay away from home for treatment, NOFCC helps with eligible accommodation-related needs. This support eases some of the financial pressure that can come with being away from home during cancer care.
Treatment-related travel assistance
Financial assistance is available to help eligible families with treatment-related costs, whether care requires travelling more than 100 km from home or remaining closer to home for treatment. Support helps offset travel expenses, lost wages, and other practical needs that can arise during cancer care.
Parking support
NOFCC helps eligible families with parking costs while receiving treatment at Health Sciences North, CHEO, SickKids, or other treatment centres. Receipts are required for reimbursement and can be submitted to NOFCC for review.
Transit support
NOFCC helps eligible families with transportation-related costs such as taxis, buses, subways, or other modes of transit used to attend treatment appointments. Receipts are required for reimbursement.
Before submitting expenses
Accommodation, parking, transit, and travel-related supports depend on eligibility, treatment location, distance from home, family circumstances, and current NOFCC resources. Receipts are required for all reimbursements. If you are unsure which form applies or what documentation is needed, please contact NOFCC before submitting your request.
