Miguel Beites was loved beyond measure by all who knew him, and his legacy continues to make a lasting difference for children and families across Northern Ontario.
The community behind the Miggy Cup
NOFCC sincerely thanks Miguel’s wife, Marie-Soleil Beites; his brother, Darcy Beites; and everyone who served on the Miggy Cup hockey tournament committee for their extraordinary donation of $60,752.35.

A life rooted in family and community
Miguel loved life and treasured his family. His wife and three children—Mateo, Mia, and Mikaelle—meant more to him than anything.
Many people knew Miguel through the family business, Douro Roofing, and as part owner of Northern Commercial Exteriors and Northern Residential Exteriors. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, travelling, golfing, skiing, tennis, and baseball, but hockey held a special place in his life.
In his prime, Miguel was a dedicated AAA and Junior A hockey player with the Rayside-Balfour Sabrecats. He later shared his love of sport by volunteering his time to coach and train his children.
Miguel is remembered as a generous and exceptionally positive person. He was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in March 2021 and passed away in August 2023, five days after his 40th birthday. He is deeply missed by his family and friends and throughout Sudbury’s hockey and construction communities.
Creating the Miggy Fund
The inaugural Miggy Cup donation made it possible to establish the Miggy Fund, helping children with cancer and their siblings participate in extracurricular activities. Half of the tournament proceeds were allocated to the Miggy Fund, while the remainder supported families through NOFCC’s general programs.
From 2024 to 2026, the Miggy Fund helped 23 children participate in extracurricular activities.
