Family & Practical Support

Support for the everyday pressures families face

When a child is going through cancer care, everyday responsibilities can become harder to manage. NOFCC’s family and practical supports are intended to help ease some of those pressures so families can focus on care, comfort, and staying connected.

These supports vary from family to family. Some needs are practical, some are emotional, and some are simply about helping children and families feel less alone during a difficult time.

What this support includes

Welcome Home Package

The Welcome Home Package is a one-time $1,000 e-transfer offered to families after tertiary treatment or relapse treatment has been completed. After many months away for treatment, families can use this support for bills, groceries, gas, or anything they need to feel comfortable at home again.

Keep Connected Program

Through NOFCC’s Keep Connected Program, laptop and tablet lending helps children keep up with schoolwork, stay in touch with friends and family, and pass time during long treatment days.

Gift cards and practical items

Gift cards are available to eligible families who are away for extended stays or facing additional day-to-day costs during treatment. These supports depend on family circumstances and available funding.

Family-focused activities

NOFCC organizes and supports events throughout the year to help children, teens, parents, and families feel connected and supported. These include seasonal gatherings, family events, awareness activities, and community-based opportunities across Northern Ontario.

Communication and updates

NOFCC also keeps families, supporters, and the community informed through newsletters, website updates, social media, and other communication channels.

Availability and eligibility

Family and practical supports depend on funding, eligibility, family circumstances, and current NOFCC resources. If you are unsure whether this type of support applies to your family, please contact NOFCC. A team member can explain the available options and next steps.
